The Mathews Maritime Foundation, working in partnership with VIMS’ Center for Coastal Resources Management (CCRM), the National Park Service and others, has developed a water trail guide to the East River. The guide provides the opportunity for motorized and non-motorized watercraft to view:
- Historic wharf sites
- Homes and estates
- Marshes and wildlife along the East River
- Tidal mills
The East River Guide is the first in a series of what is hoped to be a complete Maritime Heritage Trail for all of the major waterways in Mathews County. The East River Trail Guide can be found on VIMS’ website.
