This project is done in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Sheriff’s Office.
Mathews County accepts applications from its residents to have outfall ditches placed on a priority list to be cleaned. Private ditches are not included in the ditch program. During the winter months, crews will work to clear the drainage areas of saplings, bushes and other accumulated debris.
Application
If you are interested in having an outfall ditch that carries water away from a roadside ditch cleared of debris to remove standing water, a Ditch Application (PDF) must be completed to be placed on the list. Submit completed applications to the Planning and Zoning office at 50 Brickbat Road or mailed to:
