Communications Manager Laura Carson (804-725-2174)

Carson began her career in 2015 and joined Mathews in 2022.  She is certified in 911 Dispatch, Crisis Intervention Team, Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Communications Training Officer, VCIN TAC operator, and Communications Operations. She has trained hand in hand with fire and police personnel in preparation for mass casualty events, tactical operations, and mental health first aid. She feels that she has “found her place in the world and hopes to make someone’s worst day better.” She enjoys managing the 911 center and working with the community.

Shift Lead Bristow

Bristow began her career in 2019 and joined Mathews in 2022, bringing her previous experience with her. She has completed certifications in 911 Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch, Fire Service Communications, and Crisis Intervention Team and is a Certified Communications Training Officer.

Shift Lead Hunter

Hunter began her career in 2023. She has completed certifications in 911 Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch, and Fire Service Communications and is a Certified Communications Training Officer. She brings a good mix of fun and professionalism into the center.  

Communications Officer Smith

Smith began her career in 2011 and joined Mathews in 2018. She decided to start working in 911 dispatch after a lengthy career in EMS. “When I’d thought about other ways I could still serve people, I thought about being a 911 Dispatcher. I am incredibly happy with my decision,” said Smith. She has completed certifications in 911 Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch, and Fire Service Communications and is a Certified Communications Training Officer. Smith enjoys being a Mom and Mimi.

Communications Officer Gonzalez

Gonzalez began her career in 2022. She has completed certifications in 911 Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch, and Fire Service Communication.

Communications Officer Miller

Miller began her career in 2023. She has completed certifications in 911 Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch, and Fire Service Communication and is trained in Crisis Intervention.

Communications Officer Blowe

Blowe began her career in 2022 and joined Mathews in 2024. She has completed certifications in 911 Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch, and Fire Service Communications. 

 Communications Officer Thurston

Thurston began her career in 2025. Thurston volunteers with Gloucester/Abingdon, enjoys spending time with her family, and helps out at the local food bank. She has completed certifications in 911 Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch, and Fire Service Communications. 

 Communications Officer Scribbins

Scribbins began his career in 2025. He decided to get a jump start on his career fresh out of high school and is currently our youngest member. He has completed certifications in 911 Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch, and Fire Service Communications.
