NOTICE OF CONTINUED MEETING

Please take notice that the February 26, 2026 meeting of the Mathews County Board of Supervisors has been recessed until Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 4:00PM at the Historic Courthouse located at 27 Court Street in Mathews, Virginia.  On March 3, 2026 the Board will re-enter a closed meeting for the same purposes that it entered closed meeting on February 26, 2026, which is as follows:

Virginia Code § 2.2-3711(A)(3) discussion or consideration of the disposition of publicly held real property because discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the bargaining position or negotiating strategy of the Board of Supervisors-384 Old Ferry Road; and

Virginia Code § 2.2-3711(A)(7) for consultation with legal counsel and briefings by staff members pertaining to actual litigation because such consultation or briefing in open meeting would adversely affect the negotiating or litigating posture of the Board of Supervisors – Hole in the Wall Waterfront Grill, LLC v. Mathews County Board of Supervisors and Ramona Wilson in her capacity as the County Administrator CL25-220; and

Virginia Code § 2.2-3711(A)(8) for consultation with legal counsel regarding specific legal matters requiring the provision of legal advice by the County Attorney – Virginia Freedom of Information Act; legal requirements applicable to settlement negotiations; legal requirements for the disposition of publicly held property; contract law; legal advice regarding breach of contract as it pertains to the lease between Mathews County and the Hole in the Wall Waterfront Grill, LLC.

On February 23, 2026 Judges Appoint Kimberly Hensley as the Interim Commonwealth Attorney for Mathews County

MATHEWS, VA — Ms. Kimberly Hensley will serve as the Interim Commonwealth’s Attorney for Mathews County, effective February 23, 2026. Her appointment follows the sudden passing of former Commonwealth’s Attorney Tina Marie Walls. Hensley will serve in this interim capacity until a special election is held in November.

Hensley brings nearly 30 years of legal experience to the position. Since 2017, she has served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for York County and the City of Poquoson. In partnership with York County, Ms. Hensley will temporarily step away from her current duties to assist in serving the citizens of Mathews County.

The County extends its sincere appreciation to York County and to Ms. Hensley for her willingness to step in during this difficult time to serve the citizens of Mathews County.
