Mathews County Sheriff's Office is a full service law enforcement office which currently employs eleven (11) full time sworn law enforcement personnel. This includes one (1) School Resource Officer serving Thomas Hunter Middle School and Mathews High School.

The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. This position requires certification as a Basic Law Enforcement Officer through the Department of Criminal Justice Services in Virginia. Applicants should have the ability to learn and understand complex principles and techniques related to law enforcement and it’s required responsibilities. This position requires the ability to work assigned shifts to include weekends and holidays and subject to emergency call-outs and court appearances. Deputy Sheriffs are charged with enforcement of State and Local criminal and traffic laws and ordinances.
Applicants must be:
21 years of age or older
Possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License
U.S. citizen
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Successfully pass a polygraph examination
Comprehensive back-ground investigation
Pre-employment physical examination
