The Mathews County General Registrar's Office is located on the first floor of the Administration building on the historic court green (50 Brickbat Road). The office offers Voter Registration, Absentee Ballot and Election information. A general election is held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each year. Polling places open at 6:00 am and close at 7:00 pm. Mathews County is divided into three precincts.

Qualified registered voters who will be absent from Mathews County on Election Day or who are unable to get to the polls because of physical disability or illness, may apply to vote by Absentee Ballot in person or by mail-in-form. Applications to vote by mail must be received at least five (5) days before the election. To vote absentee in person, come to the General Registrar's office at least three (3) days prior to the election.
