IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!

2018-2019 FUEL SEASON

  

Fuel Assistance Program

 October 9, 2018 - November 9, 2018

  • Applications must be received at the Social Service office at 536 Church Street or postmarked no later than November 9, 2018.  Any applications received after November 9, 2018 will be denied. 
  • Allotments will be distributed in December. 
  • The Fuel Assistance Program can help with the purchase of oil, gas, kerosene, wood or help with your electric bill if you heat with electric.

 

Crisis

November 1, 2018 March 15, 2019

  • Helps with the repairs, replacements and maintenance or supplemental equipment needed for some heating units.

 

Crisis – (Fuel)

January 2, 2019 – March 15, 2019

  • Help with primary fuel expenses. 
  • This includes help with purchase of oil, kerosene, gas, wood or assistance with an electric (disconnect) bill as well as paying a security deposit for gas or electric. 
  • If you have received  Fuel Assistance for heating that allotment must be used up BEFORE applying for Crisis, unless it’s for repair, replacement or maintenance.

           

Energy Share

 October 1, 2018 - May 30, 2019

  • Help with the purchase of oil, gas, kerosene, wood, electric bill or a disconnection, a security deposit for gas or electric up to $250.00.  Those 60 or older can get help twice with a regular electric bill up to the maximum amount. 

 

All programs are based on your household’s income.

 

  • Applications may be  picked up from the office during regular business hours Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or one can be mailed or faxed to you by calling 804-725-7192 or the call center at (855)635-4370.

 

Applications are also available at the DSS website www.commonhelp.virginia.gov .  If you apply this way the application can be sent electronically or you can download the application and mail or fax it to the agency.
